Together, let’s show these up and coming athletes some good old-fashioned Peace Country hospitality, in the spirit of the Games—good sportsmanship, competitiveness and camaraderie.  At the 2010 Alberta Summer Games, young athletes, ranging in age from 11 to 17 years old, will compete in 15 sporting events, being staged throughout the region. See list on left bar of webpage.  Athletes compete as representatives of eight zones, representing all regions of Alberta. Click here to view zone map

At the Games, these young athletes will gain experience competing at a multi-sport event, preparing them for higher levels of competition such as the Western Canadian Summer Games, the Canada Summer Games and beyond to international levels of competition. The Peace Region Games Society, as organizers of the 2010 Alberta Summer Games, is proud to be part of Canada’s sports heritage.  The Opening Ceremonies will be held July 19 at the Peace River Agricultural Society Grounds in Northern Sunrise County to begin the Games.

These Games are unique as they are being staged in two shifts. During shift #1, July 19 to 22, athletes will compete in Athletics, Baseball, Beach Volleyball, Canoe/Kayak, Mountain Biking, Inline Hockey, Rugby and Swimming. During shift #2, from July 22 to 25, athletes will compete in Basketball, BMX, Football, Lacrosse, Soccer, Softball and Water Polo.  Closing Ceremonies, also at the Peace River Agricultural Grounds, will mark the end of the Games on July 25.

At least one sporting event will be held in a host community. Find out which sports are coming to your home community or region. Click here to view Sports Schedule.  Over 2,000 volunteers are required to host these athletes, coaches, officials, family and friends who will travel here during the Games. If you’d like to get involved, please visit the Volunteer section of the website.

The 2010 Alberta Summer Games will leave a lasting legacy in the Peace Region with facility enhancements, a sense of pride that comes with showcasing the region to Albertans and giving young athletes an opportunity to pursue their dreams and goals.
